Education

Graduating in May and working almost full time, requires exceptional organizational skills. Most importantly, it requires dedication. Below are several examples of work completed in the last couple of years. The first is a work in progress, which includes a very complicated case study involving a patient with diabetes. It is a group project, therefore requiring excellent communication and leadership skills, which I readily bring to the table.

The second is a research paper completed in 2010, studying the effects of the "pro-oxidative" state of pregnancy.  My primary choice for all research projects involve Antioxidant therapy and the effects of oxidative stress to the body. In November of 2011, I will be taking on a second paper investigating antioxidants as a treatment for metabolic syndrome.

One of the most interesting courses I have taken while studying Nutrition, was Vitamins and Minerals. It is amazing to me the complexity of the body, and how each vitamin and mineral has its own critical role in maintaining balance. I feel research in the area of using vitamins and minerals as treatment for disease is important in decreasing morbidity and mortality in our country. Below is the abstract of a study and presentation done on the role of Vitamin  A in the treatment of Cushings' Syndrome.

Perhaps the most relevant to my future career is the study of Nutrition Counseling. Regardless of whether I am educating someone about proper weight management, or planning a change in their physical activity level the techniques I have perfected in this class will always be valuable.
